A First for Namibia – Virtual Incubation Program (VIP) for Female Entrepreneurs

The RLabs Namibia team replicated the Virtual Incubation Program (VIP), designed for women by women. This is an exciting initiative that focuses on providing an opportunity for female entrepreneurs.

Equipping women with skills to further develop their businesses is a great start to poverty eradication, as women make up more than 50% of the population and the Virtual Incubation Program is an amazing initiative in contribution to the country’s vision 2030.

For two weeks (20th February – 3rd March 2023), we hosted our first group of female-entrepreneurs into the Virtual Incubation Program, cohort 1. During the period, we covered the following modules:

Hack My Business, Business Modeling, Business Blueprint, design my Brand-Kit, Social Media for Business, Investment Readiness and Pitch Perfect. The 5 ladies are all based in different areas across Namibia, but the powerful tool of technology made it all possible to successfully complete the sessions every evening from 17h30-19h30 for two full weeks.

The figure shows the different categories of businesses owned by the female entrepreneurs.

See what the participants had to share about their experience:

1. Experience

2. Highlights

3. Lowlights

4. Any other comments

1. The first week was a bit hectic as I had to learn about new people. I was always looking forward to the meeting. The second week I had to always run to make sure I got home just to be in the meeting. How exciting is it to be talking and listening to other people's ideas, and most of all to learn.  I have so many ideas that I wish to do that I got from the facilitators.

2. My highlight was always feeling like part of the family. I recall when I could not make it to the meeting as I was at the hospital. The response that I got made me feel the care. With regard to the things, we were taught in the meeting, my highlight is the golden circle, I was learning to understand how my business works. I never had time to think of the Why, How and the What of my Business, but now I understand my business.

3. Only in the last week. When I missed some meeting, I felt bad that the facilitators now just have to go back because of me. But I had an amazing facilitator. How they responded to me always just boosted my spirit and I would always catch up.

4. Being part of this amazing team from the facilitators to my fellow entrepreneur, was an experience I will never forget. I still don't understand how i got here, but I am grateful to Uvatera, Emily, Mareldia, I don't recall all the names but a big thank you to all that had helped me and all of us that were chosen for the VIP. The motivation I got from this group of women was something I will not forget.

Rebbeka

1.  It was the best two weeks of me and my business. I have learned a lot, I have gained new ideas for my business.

2. My highlights is most on Value propositions, the golden circle and Social media marketing.

3. My lowlights was from connection that was on and off in most cases and that's not from your side my respective facilitators.

4. The comments that I would like to share here is that I am personally grateful for the opportunity, and I’m looking forward to more. We had wonderful facilitators and whenever there's such opportunities,

please invite us in so we give our speech and encourage other fellow women to take such opportunities. This will motivate others too.

1. My experience was better than I thought very positive from day one, we were able to transition from offline to online classes without falling behind schedule. Coaches are very approachable and eager to help us.

2. Being able to learn new ways of business marketing and creative way of presentation and pitching my business

3. My lowlights was network tripping some time

Sigrid

1. My experience with the virtual incubation program for two weeks was very awesome and great, even though we experienced network difficulties sometimes. It was stressful but I complete my training. I network and market my business, which is a great opportunity. The facilitators and trainers were kind, and focused, for us to complete our training.

2. New skills and knowledge. Value proposition and Revenue streams, Business Model Canvas, this value will sustain my business greatly. Computer skills, canvas and time management.

3. Network failing during the session, stressing from work straight to the session unprepared and lack of computer skill.

4. Thank you very much for the value and insightful training. As an administrative head at my company, I will apply to move my business forward. To reach my goals and able to give back. I will share this with my fellow woman.

Tunaje

1. My experience of the Virtual Women Incubation Programme has significantly widened my knowledge as an entrepreneur and this has taught me the importance of having a business. During the two weeks I got to unlock new business ideas which made me adjust my goals for my business to do better, improve, and grow my business. So much positive energy was being portrait and this created a very comfortable environment to fully open about the business.

2. What stood out for me mostly during the two weeks was the lovely team that went over and above everything to make sure that we understand the content and are up to date with the daily activities. And the lovely assistance that we got in the different break-out rooms was impeccable.

3. My lowlight was the uncontrollable network issues that we faced because of weather conditions that we were facing but that didn’t stop us from completing or attending any session. We fought daily to be part of the sessions.

4. I hope that this program continues empowering women who are trying to grow their businesses.

                                              RLABS SOCIA

It was a pleasure being in RLABS  and learning about different  programmes  like social media. Tuitor where more active .We gain more skills to be more wiser in social media these. This programme was insprition to me.The programm was open minded to me and a big privellage and i was happy to grap this opportunity  with my two hands .RLABS has learn me  to be more speed in media .RLABS has contribute in my dream and career in many was  it has a good reflect

* RLabs for me is a great experience ,I learned a lot about social media and that really helped me gain lots of ideas like how to post online etc.

Coming to RLabs training meeting the facilitators has really showed me that I'm at the right place at the right time.RLabs training made an great difference which now i'am sure what i need to do in life, what i want and how to get it .I can say RLabs was a gift from GOD because it really taught me a lot.The journey was quite positive because it affected me positively to learn what i didn't know and it gave me new ideas as well and to know about different websites that i thought didn't exist

RLabs is a great experience for me

My Journey with RLabs

My Journey with RLabs

How i got to find out all about it,since RLabs is more into or about Social Media gosh that is were i got all information about it from a friend...How typical that all get lost when looking for RLabs, the same had to happen to me the very first day when i thought of going to apply, eventually we got the place and got forms that we had to fill in and bring  back the next day. After some days i received a text that i got accepted and my friend didn't which was quite disappointing...

The first day came where we had our first classes,uh-mm everyone was really friendly were we got really energetic and friendly facilitators Rose and Ali (very amazing people),thought that was gonna be the best course all seemed to be perfect, just to find out that the next week we had to change facilitators which i thought was gonna be different i may say was really impressed by RLabs all the  facilitators are  well trained even though we changed six different of them and yet didn't tell the difference since all are good...

I may say i am really learning a lot from this course( Introduction to Social and Digital Media) so great full that i got chosen its really a great job that RLabs is busy with,it really got a lot of our youth off the streets and all that had no ideas on what to do...

A big shout out to RLabs!!!

RLabs

                                                         The introduction to social media
All thanks to RLabs the youth is having something to do that is worth something at the end of the day.I am very honour to have this greate opportunity to do introduction to social media and digital media. This is not everyday opportunity that the youth gets and I think GOD is opening doors for me slowly but surely and I feel very blessed. The most wonderful part is that this courses are for free, which i think is very good.I also love the fact that we get a tee brake with juice and cookies.

My dream is to help my community to achieve something like this in the future as RLabs inspired me with many things than i was expecting. All thanks to RLab I would want something like to be done in my community as there is nothing that inspires the youth in okahanja park community.I would one day wanna be a facilitator at Rlabs.
                                                             MY LIfe  with RLabs

When my life was quickly falling out of my hands and reality wasn't within reach, I felt helpless. I needed to find a way out somehow, someone or something to influence me in a better way by helping me out of the major hole I had dug myself into.
It all began when I moved away from my life in Okahandja, and couldn't accept the fact that it was something my parents had to do. I was an emotional mess. I had much anger and no one to vent it on, except my parents, which, most of the time, was pointless. This would just end up being an even bigger mess. So as I began to make friends, I figured why not drown my sorrows in whatever I could possibly find - drugs, alcohol, "fun." I was out on school nights until one or two, planning on not going to school because I thought I had better things to do. As time passed, I began to miss many days of school, causing my grades to fall tremendously. I decided to drop out of the tenth grade. It seemed easier in my eyes, no more waking up at five o'clock - and I could stay out and not feel guilty. I knew somewhat what I was doing; I knew my life was on a downhill slant, and at that time I couldn't do a thing about it.
As my friends from the other side saw what I was doing, they decided to do it too, losing everything they had: respect from everyone, parents, relatives, friends, and teachers. So we went on a fantasy trip, not caring about losing our education or love from people who tried to care. We thought it was great to be on our own until we ran out of money for our adventures.

So, I got a full-time job which didn't last long. I got sick of that too. I couldn't deal with people telling me what I had to do. I rebelled, and got fired. Once again, I didn't care. Then, my friends and I began to get into a lot of mischief, getting in trouble with the police a number of times. Finally, they told me I would be sent to a juvenile institute to get back on track. My friends were in the same predicament. So I went home to try to figure out my mistakes, to try to patch them up. Well, I couldn't - I would just have to move on.
Weeks went by while I stayed home, still out of school. I watched what my friends were getting into, and I couldn't understand why they couldn't see what was happening to them. They were falling apart, just like I was. At that point, I wanted nothing to do with anyone. I needed time to myself, and I wanted my life back to normal.
The second semester of my tenth grade year, I put myself back into school and got a part-time job. I began to do well, still a little on the edge, but I knew it wouldn't be perfect in a day. It took me awhile to get back in the swing of things and live a normal high school life. I give myself credit for doing it on my own. I turned myself around because I knew my lifestyle was wrong and what I was doing was dangerous. I needed time to find myself more than anything so I was introduced to RLabs at NBII and it change me positively I had learned so much so far and my dream was always to become a fashion blogger I also met amaizing souls and had made new friends, and here I am now, a senior, awaiting graduation for RLabs. -
